Q10- The minimal notepad

I don't know why I am trying out Q10. But I always wanted to write without distraction. And probably   Q10 is the best app out there which can do this. Just me and the text on black screen. Nothing else.

Q10 is free. And sadly is only available for windows. But if I wanted to write something, and not be distracted by IMs, tweets, popups, or anything else on the computer's screen.
Very impressive, very minimal. In fact, it brings the mac feel to a windows program. It just does one thing, and it does that well. This is a must have for any writer. As far as minimal notebook applications go, Simplenote is one application which is minimal and yet supports syncing between devices. As a longtime evernote user, simplenote was too minimal for all my online text and images. Now Q10 does not include any sync mechanism to sync notes online to use with other devices. Q10 enables sound by default, and the sound mimics the typewriter; very satisfying indeed, especially if you have used a typewriter before. I learnt how to type on an old Remington (I didn't exactly learn, it was more of fooling around with it)
A workaround
Dropbox ensures that every file created is synced online across all my devices. Creating a folder for all my Q10 files ensured that my files would be accessible from anywhere. pure portability. Now all I have to do, is to attach them and email them across to my evernote mail address or my posterous blog. That makes blogging all the more easy.

Dropbox support for Mobile devices

Have been using Dropbox quite sometime and it keeps my files in sync on the web and all across my computers. Read more about Dropbox here Dropbox adds support for mobile devices as well. If you visit the website from any mobile phone, you are redirected to the mobile version of the site, which lets you download your files to your mobile phone. I tried it out on my Nokia N97 and it even lets you update files onto your dropbox online folder (Just choose the normal version over the Mobile version on the page and upload using the basic uploader).  Signup for Dropbox to sync across all your devices.

Dropbox - sync your files across computers

Set up Dropbox (http://getdropbox.com) and installed it on all my laptops. Now that should keep them all synced. I always had trouble carrying around files on a USB drive. Especially when I think that USBs are meant to run operating systems and not to carry files. Now that lets me access all my synced files from anywhere in the world, not just my laptops. But then its a bit of redundancy. Why would I need to sync files across machines, when I carry my operating system with me? Dropbox is easy and lets you sync upto 2GB for free. Just download Dropbox and signup with an email address and password. The dropbox folder inside your My documents folder is just another folder, except that its synced across all your linked computers. Still haven't tried Dropbox for Ubuntu, which reminds me..I'll need make a post on the Ubuntu installation as well.
