Q10- The minimal notepad

I don't know why I am trying out Q10. But I always wanted to write without distraction. And probably   Q10 is the best app out there which can do this. Just me and the text on black screen. Nothing else.

Q10 is free. And sadly is only available for windows. But if I wanted to write something, and not be distracted by IMs, tweets, popups, or anything else on the computer's screen.
Very impressive, very minimal. In fact, it brings the mac feel to a windows program. It just does one thing, and it does that well. This is a must have for any writer. As far as minimal notebook applications go, Simplenote is one application which is minimal and yet supports syncing between devices. As a longtime evernote user, simplenote was too minimal for all my online text and images. Now Q10 does not include any sync mechanism to sync notes online to use with other devices. Q10 enables sound by default, and the sound mimics the typewriter; very satisfying indeed, especially if you have used a typewriter before. I learnt how to type on an old Remington (I didn't exactly learn, it was more of fooling around with it)
A workaround
Dropbox ensures that every file created is synced online across all my devices. Creating a folder for all my Q10 files ensured that my files would be accessible from anywhere. pure portability. Now all I have to do, is to attach them and email them across to my evernote mail address or my posterous blog. That makes blogging all the more easy.

Mobile blogging via the WP symbian client

I've been looking around for that perfect mobile wordpress blogging client and so far nothing's quite worked out. If this post is published with an image, then my mobile blogging quest has been successful. The Wordpress client for symbian was too basic the last time I checked out. But version 0.5.5 is quite robust. No blog errors so far, in many ways this is a test blog post. now to try inserting an image, because I find that's something most clients are bad at and that's one reason I've never been able to blog off my mobile phone...

Wordmobi, mobile blogging for wordpress

Got this symbian app to blog from my mobile, Wordmobi. And decided to take it out for spin..wordmobi needs python for s60 to be installed on your mobile phone..but the download link is available on their google code page.
I'm not too sure how links and html works on the real post..but the app has support for categories, tags and even statistics which i believe needs the api key. Have i found the perfect mobile blogging solution? Well, atleast for the wordpress solution. And the app looks polished and is pretty easy to use as well. I cannot stop complaining the dearth of symbian apps. I don't even get a facebook symbian app.

Press this - the nifty wordpress bookmarklet

Scribefire's blogging extension for firefox was featured on thunderror.com a while ago.

I always had the press this bookmarklet on my bookmarks list, but had never bothered to use it until now. But I soon came to realize what a valuable tool it was. Instead of sending those weird bits and pieces of the internet to your tumblelog or your twitter, why not blog about them on your primary blog? Twitter as always has been a major distraction to my blogging activities. So get back to microblogging on your own blog. Thanks to Press this!

The bookmarklet allows you to post to your wordpress blog from anywhere on the web, which is as good as scribefire. All it takes is a click off the button. Like something you see on the web? Click on the bookmarklet and share it with your blog visitors.

I know most of you would already have used this tool if you own, or have owned a WP blog at some point of time. But this post is for all those people who wish to come back and blog more than they tweet!

If you have a wordpress blog, go to your tools page and you should find your press this button right there, waiting for you!

The Indiblogger's meet

Yesterday I was down with a terrible headache and I had the reminder on my mobile for the blogger's meet at 4. I decided to hurry up and leave with just 10 minutes on my watch. Got stuck at the Doraiswamy subway for about 15 minutes. Somehow managed to reach the venue 15 minutes late. But then, no parking space..I poked my car into the only space available..little realizing that it was a ditch..I tried pulling it back...but it was too late... I decided to ditch my ditched car and go onto the meet. The meet started quite late and it was great fun, especially since I managed to sit in the 2nd row with a few fun people which offered a conducive atmosphere to comment upon others (lol, haven't done that in a long time now...all right..no offence please...) The intro by the indiblogger's team was followed by many members introducing themselves and their blogs. That was pretty cool now that I have more interesting blogs to read during my idle hours :) The session was interrupted for tea (and snacks of course...) It was more of an ice breaking session with everyone interacting and getting to know each other..There was a great presentation on mobile blogging by Kumar from the sacrificial altar (http://atthealtar.blogspot.com/), followed by a humourous play from Rebelz http://www.rebelz.in/ This was followed by a play by the Indiblogger team and a presentation on Microsoft live writer by Sandhya...We had a group foto taken (do give me the link to the picture plz...) And last but not least thanks to all those dear dear souls who helped me put my car back on solid ground (video link plz) from the deep valleys of despair dug by Chennai corporation... This was a quick blog on the event. Do check out my blogbuddy's posts @

Sorry kumar, Blogspot is blocked @ office, couldn't comment on your post in the morning..will do it when I go home...;) Do give me the missing links.. www.indiblogger.in

The other blog

I really got up late after a late night session of blogging yesterday. I had to rush to work on my project, cos I was really late. I just couldn't make myself wake up. Now after all that is done. I have decided to sleep early and leave my nocturnal habits for good..So I have to sit and blog during the day..Now that is a bit of problem since I really don't feel like writing my blog during the day. Ah! well that is how it is meant to go I guess.... Here is the news for the day. This blog has been officially opened up and I'll soon go and put up a link at my faithful old blog. Its merely outsourcing at the blog level. I decided that the content on my existing blog was getting too technical to interest readers who came from a wide background...so this is the everyday blog..and for those who are interested in the advanced writing that I love to indulge in; there is always Thunderror's technoblog. I really think that would give me the liberty to write more of serious stuff on my previous blog at the same time allowing me to relax by writing this... My original works would continue to be on my old blog, but they are more suitable for this blog; The trouble is that I just don't feel like deleting them off my old blog. Now I really need to think of more content for this one as well as that one. I really don't think I can manage two blogs..But maybe I can ;) So I was working away on my blogs, so what happened? I did find that my wordpress account was offering me a better interface for the blog, but was really limiting the stuff I could add to it. I mean, google's talkback cannot be added...I even don't want to start discussing about the deviantart pasties and other stuff. So for all those goodies, my old blog is still the place to be.

delayed

I realize its been some days since I blogged last. Not that it matters to anyone. This blog too has unique and outstanding stuff. But even its uniqueness is lost in the crowd of lot of other blogs which are just as unique, which leaves this blog not so unique along with others. Well that was enough nonsense to start off with this blog. I have spending most of my time listening to music these days and most of it is robert miles. I love the simplicity of his work, the austerity of his tunes and the pristine clarity in what he wishes to convey through his music. ahem..that was quite a lovely description but its not even a bit as good as his music really is. I spent my lonely times listening to the music losing myself in a whole new world...And of course I am not lonely. The function has already been called... I do not have much to write today since I haven't got much going on around. I spent my evening yesterday trying to learn calculus, but soon gave up...I guess physics is far more interesting and easier than mathematics...
